‘MIRA’, the 40-story tower in san francisco designed by studio gang, has started welcoming its first residents. the project, which was first unveiled in 2018 and topped out in april 2019, offers a range of luxury condominium residences. the building is defined by its distinctive bay windows, which twist up the façade of the high-rise to present sweeping views of san francisco bay, the bay bridge, and the city skyline. in july 2020, the project received its temporary certificate of occupancy (TCO) and residents began moving into their new homes.

MIRA offers one-, two- and three-bedroom condominiums and townhouses — with interiors also designed by studio gang — all providing views through large bay windows. located one block from the embarcadero, on site amenities include: a courtyard, rooftop deck, private dining and lounge, a fitness center, children’s playroom, conference room, dog washing station, valet parking for 340 cars with electric vehicle charging stations, parking for 150 bicycles, and over 10,000 square feet of retail at street level.

to realize the geometric complexity of the project’s dynamic, white curtain wall, studio gang created a modular façade system consisting of families of units that repeat every 11 floors. the engineering process was adapted from the aerospace industry to achieve the flat and clean look of the curtain wall’s italian-made white panels. the curtain wall is a part of a distinctive, spiraling design that transforms san francisco’s skyline with large bay windows that twist up the building’s façade to offer residents sweeping views.

‘reinterpreting the classic bay windows of san francisco, our design amplifies the dynamic quality of the neighborhood,’ explains jeanne gang, founding principal of studio gang. ‘spiraling all the way up this 400-foot tower, bay windows create unique spaces in every residence that offer fresh air, expansive views, and changing qualities of light throughout the day.’

‘studio gang designed the homes at MIRA to be a seamless extension of the architecture, and we’re excited to move our first residents into this beautiful community,’ says carl shannon, senior managing director at tishman speyer. ‘our homes offer fresh air, expansive views through panoramic bay windows, and create a dynamic façade that has transformed the neighborhood with studio gang’s groundbreaking, forward-thinking architecture.’
