solight design’s inventor and founder has created a radical alternative to traditional N95 face masks dubbed SEEUS95. featuring a natural filter made of bamboo, silk, silver and carbon, the mask also boasts a skin therapy layer made of a skin healing material called chitosan — a natural biopolymer with moisture harnessing properties used in skin rejuvenation for burn victims, hip replacements, and cosmetic applications for wrinkle reduction.
‘during COVID-19 and lockdown in NYC, we saw many health care workers, doctors, friends and family who were using face masks that frankly are not effective for multiple reasons,’ comment the creators. ‘but most importantly we saw that we were no longer able to see our faces and have that social connection, which is a problem for the deaf, children, and for all of us. we connect with others first with our faces. hence the name SEE US 95.’
the SEEUS95 mask claims better protection than market leading masks made from non-woven polypropylene or cloth. the clear, earloop free, self-adhesive and kind to your skin mask features a sustainable design made from all-natural, environmentally safe materials. for example, bamboo has more tensile strength than steel and is naturally anti-bacterial and anti-microbial, absorbing moisture in the air which carries viruses. the silk fiber is strong, also anti-bacterial and carries an electrostatic charge that attracts viruses. the nano silver (AgNPs) have been effective in killing both gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria strains. the active carbon is a natural odor magnet and also pulls toxins from the air and fluids.
‘as a transparent mask, the eminent reality of condensation will occur when there is a temperature difference between the air inside the mask and the temperature of the mask material itself,’ continue the designers. ‘SEEUS95 has an anti-FOG coating on the inside surface of the mask which will prevent fogging. we also recommend using an alcohol wipe on the inside surface and letting that dry before putting the mask on to reduce condensation. once the mask acclimates to temperatures inside and outside, the fog disappears.’
