Thatch collected with local people were prepared as bundles of various shapes ranging from 0.9 to 15cm in diameter and 24 to 60cm in length. With the cooperation of thatch roofers from all over Japan, we created a space that uses thatch for the ceiling and eaves, filling it with the scent of thatch in an experience unlike typical thatched roofs.

In the past, silver grass grasslands to grow thatch played a major role in Japanese nature. Biodiversity was maintained through a series of activities such as burning the silver grass field, cultivating thatch and its ecosystem, and reaping thatch.

The silver grass that grows wild in the Hiruzen-Kogen Highlands has a unique texture lost in modern building materials. Not only is thatch soft, but it is a magical material that breathes life into architecture.
